Hafilat Bus Routes 2026: Every Route, Fare, Timing & Stop in Abu Dhabi

Last Updated: July 2026 | Source: AD Mobility (admobility.gov.ae)

Abu Dhabi’s Hafilat bus routes cover over 130 services across the emirate — from the Corniche to the Saudi border at Al Gweifat, from Zayed International Airport to Al Ain, from Yas Island to Al Dhafra. Whether you commute daily, just arrived in Abu Dhabi, or want to reach the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque without paying AED 40 for a taxi, Hafilat gets you there for AED 2–5.

This guide covers every Hafilat bus route in the 2026 network, complete with fares, operating hours, the Hafilat card, the Darbi app, and all 12 FAQs passengers ask most — fully answered.

Hafilat Bus Routes

What Is the Hafilat Bus Network?

Hafilat (حافلات — Arabic for “buses”) is Abu Dhabi’s official smart card public bus network, operated by the Abu Dhabi Mobility Centre (AD Mobility), previously called the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC).

The network spans:

  • Abu Dhabi island and its urban core
  • Suburban communities: Khalifa City, MBZ City, Mussafah, Al Shahama, Baniyas, Al Shamkhah, Al Reef, Al Raha
  • Al Ain city and its surrounding areas
  • The Al Dhafra western region, including Madinat Zayed, Ghayathi, and Al Dhannah
  • Inter-emirate connections to Dubai

The same word “Hafilat” refers to both the bus network and the smart payment card used to board. The official route list is published at admobility.gov.ae.

Key city route notes:

Routes 5 and 7 share the same origin (Al Zahiyah) and destination (Marina Mall) but use different road alignments along the Corniche corridor. Check the Darbi app to see which stops closer to your start point.

  • Route 24 is the direct tourist route from Marina Mall to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Route 54 runs the reverse direction, from the Mosque to Khalifa University.
  • Route 34 is the only Hafilat bus that terminates at Qasr Al Watan — ideal for anyone visiting the Presidential Palace experience.
  • Route 45 is a weekend-only circular service for church communities, running from and returning to Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station on Saturdays and Sundays only.
  • Route 73 connects Al Reem Island (Shams Abu Dhabi) directly to Al Hudayriat Island — the beach and leisure destination at Mar Vista and Bab Al Nojoum.
  • Route 94 is the best single-bus tourist value in Abu Dhabi. One fare. Stops at both the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque on the same trip.

Route A40 is the only Hafilat bus that passes through the airport as a transit point between two suburbs. It connects Al Shahama to Baniyas West via Terminal A, without requiring passengers to route through Abu Dhabi city center.

Route K4 gives Khalifa City residents a direct connection to Terminal 2 — avoiding an AED 35–50 taxi.

Regional Bus Routes

Regional buses connect Abu Dhabi city to its suburbs and satellite communities. Distances are longer, stops fewer.

Four regional routes worth knowing:

  • Route 184 (Abu Dhabi CBS → Yas Island IKEA via Saadiyat and Jubail Mangrove Park) passes through one of Abu Dhabi’s most visited natural reserves. The same AED 2–5 fare takes you past the mangroves and all the way to Yas Island.
  • Route 216 (Al Shahama → MBZ City via Yas Island and Khalifa City) is a multi-suburb connector. Passengers from Al Shahama, Yas Island, or Khalifa City can use it to reach MBZ City (Mazyad Mall) without transiting through Abu Dhabi city center.
  • Routes 203 and 223 are the only Hafilat buses to the BAPS Hindu Temple in Abu Mreikhah — one of the UAE’s most visited religious landmarks. Route 203 departs from Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station; Route 223 loops from Al Shahama Bus Station. Both run weekends only.
  • Routes 227 and 228 serve Zayed Military City on different days. Route 227 runs Monday–Friday to Sweihan Prison; Route 228 runs Saturday–Sunday to Tawazun. Check the day before you travel.

E-series inter-emirate buses (E100, E101, E102) to Dubai accept both the Hafilat Card and Dubai’s Nol Card.

Route X90 is the fastest Hafilat option between Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. It runs as a direct express service — no local stops along the way.

How to Get and Use a Hafilat Card

Cost: AED 10
Valid for 5 years
Where to buy
Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station and all major bus stations
Lulu Hypermarkets (most branches)
Authorized retail outlets — full list at admobility.gov.ae
How to top up
Ticket Office Machines (TOMs) at bus stations
Swift Recharge Machines (SRMs) at bus stops
TAMM portal at tamm.abudhabi
The Darbi app (requires registered account or UAE Pass)
Tourists: No UAE ID required to buy or use a Hafilat card. Purchase at the bus station on arrival and use it immediately. To check balance or dispute a fare online, register the card on the TAMM portal with your passport details.
After any online top-up: Tap your card once on any bus validator before you need to board. This syncs the credit from the server to the card chip. Cards topped up online but never synced will fail at the validator.
Keep at least AED 5 on the card before every trip.

How to Board a Hafilat Bus — Step by Step

  1. Buy a Hafilat card and load credit — AED 10 for the card, then top up at a machine, via TAMM, or the Darbi app.
  2. Find your route — use the Darbi app, Google Maps, or admobility.gov.ae.
  3. Arrive at your stop 5 minutes early — during peak hours, buses fill quickly and occasionally skip overcrowded stops.
  4. Board and tap your Hafilat card on the yellow validator near the door. The system deducts the fare automatically based on your travel distance.
  5. Take an available seat. Front seats on every Hafilat bus are reserved for women, families, and People of Determination. This is a rule, not a suggestion.
  6. Tap out when you exit. Tap the validator again as you leave. Forgetting to tap out triggers a maximum-distance fare for that route.
  7. Transfer within 60 minutes. Tap out at your stop and board the next bus within 60 minutes of that tap — no second boarding charge. Up to 2 free transfers per journey.

Common Problems and Fixes

Card rejected at the validator

Check your balance first — the Darbi app shows it immediately
If you topped up online and the card still fails, the credit wasn’t synced. Tap the card on any validator (at a station or on an idle bus) to sync it, then board
If the card still fails after syncing, visit a staffed counter at any major bus station
Route missing from the Darbi app

Update the app to the latest version — AD Mobility adds and modifies routes regularly
If the route still doesn’t appear, try searching by stop name instead of route number
Google Maps integrates Abu Dhabi bus data and often surfaces routes the Darbi app doesn’t show first
Bus didn’t arrive on time

Open the Darbi app — it shows the live position of every bus on your route
Traffic delays are most common on routes through Mussafah and MBZ City during evening rush hour
Arrive at the stop 5 minutes early and keep the app open
Charged the wrong fare

The system calculates your fare from tap-in stop to tap-out stop
If you missed your stop, tap out as soon as possible — the charge locks to wherever you exit
Call 800 850 or raise a dispute through the TAMM portal using your UAE Pass if the amount seems wrong.
Forgot to tap out

The system charges you the maximum distance fare for that route
Check your balance and transaction history on the TAMM portal or Darbi app
Repeated tap-out failures can result in a fine, disputable through the TAMM portal.

Abu Dhabi Link: On-Demand Bus Service

Abu Dhabi Link is an on-demand transport service for areas without fixed Hafilat routes. It connects passengers from their location to the nearest main bus stop or station, feeding into the wider network.

The service runs on a corner-to-corner model — you book through the Darbi app or the AD Link platform, select a pickup within your zone’s coverage area, and the vehicle meets you at a nearby corner. Booking must be done before travel. It’s not a walk-up service.

Abu Dhabi Link fills the gap for residents in newer communities and suburbs where fixed routes haven’t arrived yet. If your area has no bus stop on the Darbi map, Abu Dhabi Link is the first option to check.

Tips for a Smooth Journey

  • Keep at least AED 5 on your Hafilat card before every trip. Running out of balance on a moving bus creates problems for you and delays everyone behind.
  • Always sync your card after any online top-up. One tap on any validator before you need to board prevents the frustration of a failed boarding.
  • During peak hours (7:00–9:00 AM and 5:00–7:00 PM), arrive at the stop at least 5 minutes early. Buses on Mussafah, MBZ City, and Al Ain routes fill up fast and occasionally skip stops when overcrowded.
  • Front seats on every Hafilat bus are reserved for women, families, and People of Determination. Observe this consistently.
  • If multiple route numbers serve the same destination from Al Reem Island (routes 63, 65, 67, 71 all go to Marina Mall), use the Darbi app to pick the one that stops nearest your actual location on the island.
  • For X-series cash-only routes, carry AED 12 before boarding. Drivers don’t always have change for large notes.

Conclusion

Abu Dhabi’s Hafilat bus routes cover more ground than most residents realize — 130+ services connecting the Corniche to the Saudi border, the airport to Al Ain, Yas Island to Al Dhafra, and Abu Dhabi to Dubai.

Three things make the difference between a smooth journey and a frustrating one.

  • Keep your Hafilat card loaded. Running out at the validator costs you the trip. AED 5 minimum before every journey.
  • Use the Darbi app. Real-time bus positions, live arrival times, and transfer planning in one screen. It’s free and updated regularly by AD Mobility.
  • Know your route prefix. A-routes go to the airport. E-routes go to Dubai. X-routes are cash-only express. N-routes are midnight services. Once the prefix logic clicks, the entire Hafilat network becomes readable at a glance.

For daily commuters, the AED 95 monthly pass pays for itself in under 3 weeks. For tourists, Bus 94 covers the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque on a single AED 2–5 fare. For late shifts, N41 and N43 run until 4:00 AM.

The Hafilat bus network is one of the most affordable public transport systems in the Gulf. Every destination in this guide costs under AED 25. Most cost under AED 5.
